The Nursing Association of Nepal (NAN) is the sole professional organization of nurses in Nepal. It is a non-political, non-sectarian organization that is not influenced by class or religion. The organization's mission is to provide quality nursing service to the people and to protect and promote the professional rights and interests of all nurses in Nepal.
NAN was established in 1962 (BS 2018 Magh 15) with the registration number 8/018, and became a member of the International Council of Nurses (ICN) in Geneva in 1969. Initially, it was registered as the Trained Nurses Association of Nepal (TNAN). In 2048 BS, the name of the association was changed to "Nepal Nursing Sangh" in Nepali and "Nursing Association of Nepal" in English, and it is abbreviated as NAN. The organization is run by an executive board, which is elected by secret ballot every 3 years nationwide.
The mission of the Nursing Association of Nepal is to unite all nursing professionals under one roof and provide continuous support for professional development and quality nursing service. The organization's vision is for all nurses to work together towards common goals, interests, and social and economic development of nurses, national health programs, and meeting health targets through nursing service and professional activities. The nurses will develop competency skills in their respective areas of practice and deliver safe and quality service to the people.
